Safer Streets around Northwood Road

Following continued campaigning by local residents and Haringey Liberal Democrat councillors, Haringey Council recently conducted a local area consultation asking what potential solutions residents wanted to see to help resolve the traffic issues locally. This was to formalise a similar Haringey Liberal Democrats survey you will recall that we ran in the summer of 2021.

The results were conclusive, the residents wanted to see a change to the situation on Northwood Road. In the meantime, the ongoing chaos experienced by residents on a daily basis has only worsened; with more traffic, hold-ups and accidents. That’s why it was so disappointing to receive the following update from the council:

“Following the engagement that was conducted the results were reviewed and it is considered that a wider engagement is required to inform a future scheme. A scheme to address the traffic issues has been included in the Council’s Streets for People programme and we have been awarded £30,000 in funding as part of TfL’s Local Implementation Plan funding to undertake engagement and feasibility.

At the present time the Council’s available resource is fully focused on ensuring the success of existing Streets for People schemes (i.e. the three trial LTNs) therefore unfortunately we cannot currently provide timescales for engagement and feasibility on the Northwood Road scheme.”

We believe many proposals have been made that would be quick and inexpensive to implement and could be run on a trial basis to determine any impact on the wider road network, just as the council has done with its School Streets programme. That's why we need your help!
