Ban the board blight

HLD

Opposition Lib Dem councillors are urging Haringey Council to immediately follow the lead of their neighbours in Camden and crack down on estate agents' boards.

Camden Council recently used their powers under new government regulations to ban any board being erected without express approval from the council. A public consultation suggested that some 90% of Camden residents supported the move.

Any ban should cover the whole borough, not just conservation areas or town centres according to Haringey council's Lib Dem group.

Cllr Justin Hinchcliffe (LD - Fortis Green) comments:

"Estate agents’ boards are a blight on our neighbourhoods. They are ugly and just add to the clutter of signage and street furniture. They are also a nuisance for tenants and property owners, as many of them are left lingering after a contract has been signed.

“With so many online property websites these days, with great search and alert services, no one needs an agent board to find their new home. They are no more than free advertising for estate agents at the expense of the borough's street-scene."

“Haringey should follow Camden’s example without delay."

Please note this image is used as a generic illustration of an estate agent's board. We have no information about this particular board nor the company that put it up.  No wrongdoing on their part is implied. To prevent any misunderstanding on this point the image has been slightly altered to remove the agent's name and phone number.
