“Be a team-player” Haringey Lib Dem Spurs fans tell club

Haringey Lib Dem Spurs fans are calling on their club’s management to waive a £30,000 bill for hosting a food bank. During the early stages of the Covid-19 lockdown, Haringey Council ran an emergency food distribution hub from the car park of the team’s stadium. Press reports indicate that as a result, the club is charging the Council for cleaning and security costs.

A collection of spurs supporters who are also local Lib Dems, including Cllrs Scott Emery (Muswell Hill) and Viv Ross (Fortis Green), are pressing for the Council to be refunded.

Cllr Emery comments that:

“Local fans have been there for Spurs whether they’re winning or losing. Now our community is hurting, the club needs to be there for all of us too.

“Spurs have provided me with many happy memories over the years, but taking money away from the Council’s budget for PPE for a care worker or a room for a rough sleeper would tarnish those memories.

“We hope our club will be a team-player and do what’s right for its local community.”
