Councillors oppose police cuts and call for residents’ support

The Metropolitan Police is considering scrapping all 1000 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) working in neighbourhoods across London, including Haringey.

At the recent Full Council meeting on Monday night, at the Civic Centre in Wood Green, the Lib Dem opposition submitted a motion calling on the Conservative Mayor of London and the police to stop the cuts to local police teams.

The Liberal Democrats oppose the planned cuts and are urging local residents to sign a petition to save neighbourhood policing in Haringey and across London.

Caroline Pidgeon, the Lib Dem GLA Member, is also calling on the Conservative Mayor and the police to scrap the plans.

Cllr Martin Newton, Haringey Lib Dem Police and Crime Spokesperson, comments:

“The Liberal Democrats value our neighbourhood policing teams and we are committed to fighting to protect them. Please support the Lib Dem petition.

“It is more important than ever that we have local police teams in these difficult times. That is why locally the Liberal Democrats submitted a motion to the last council meeting on Monday calling on the Conservative Mayor of London to intervene and stop the cuts to local police teams.”
