Electric charging points were left switched off for months
Electric vehicle charging points installed over the Summer by Source London were not turned on until the issue was brought to the council’s attention by Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison (LD-Crouch End) in mid October.
Charging points on roads such as Middle Lane, Berkeley Road and Alexandra Park Road, which are supposed to be operational ‘at all times’, were not switched on until the matter was raised with officers by the Lib Dem group. A full list of the charging points affected can be found here.
This follows the revelation last month that a quarter of council buildings with solar panels either did not have them switched on or they were not functioning.
Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison (LD-Crouch End), Leader of the Opposition on Haringey Council, said:
“It is very worrying to discover that Haringey is failing to ensure electric vehicle charging points are quickly activated after they are installed, especially coming just a week after Liberal Democrats revealed that a quarter of the council’s solar panels aren’t working. There is simply no point installing this important infrastructure if it is left switched off. The council, who have previously declared a climate emergency, needs to ask itself what on earth is going wrong with its processes to stop this happening yet again, and ensure it is doing all it can to confront the challenges of climate change.”
