Haringey Labour readmits councillors suspended for racism

Two Labour councillors who were suspended for anti-semitic comments have been readmitted to the Labour Party, and the Haringey Labour council group. This means that the only councillor in Haringey to have been removed from the Labour group is Cllr Barbara Blake (Ind-Seven Sisters), who was accused of retweeting a post from Change UK.

Cllr Preston Tabois (Lab-Tottenham Green) has previously posted comments supportive of the conspiracy theory that Jews murdered each other in the Holocaust as part of a masterplan to create the state of Israel. Cllr Noah Tucker (Lab-St Ann’s) has a long record of supporting anti-semitic behaviour, including arguing against a ‘zero-tolerance position’ on anti-semitism and sharing an article claiming that the police officers who killed George Floyd were trained by Israeli law enforcement officers.

In 2018 Tucker also opposed Haringey Council formally adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-semitism.

Keir Starmer has previously pledged to take a ‘zero-tolerance’ stance on anti-semitism.

Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison (LD-Crouch End), Leader of Haringey Liberal Democrats, said:

“It is disgusting that no action has been taken by the national Labour Party against these two councillors. They were suspended for appalling anti-Jewish racism, and have shown zero remorse for their actions.

"The Labour Party has shown itself to be completely spineless. This is not a zero-tolerance approach to anti-semitism. Haringey Labour now has the opportunity to do what the national party hasn't, and say enough is enough and remove these councillors from their group.”
