Issues raised over Parkland Walk vegetation clearance

HLD

Muswell Hill’s Liberal Democrat councillors have raised concerns over the scale of vegetation clearance on Parkland Walk after receiving feedback from residents. Several residents have contacted local councillors in response to the works, saying that, among other things, the works went too far and were poorly managed.

After questioning from councillors, the council has agreed to work with concerned groups to find a way forward, and committed to undertaking future works themselves, instead of paying private contractors.

The council said that works were undertaken to protect the structure of the bridges and to allow for social distancing on some of the narrow parts of the path.

Cllr Scott Emery (LD – Muswell Hill) said:
“Muswell Hill councillors agree with residents’ concerns: the clearance was too aggressive and the loss of trees and vegetation will harm the local ecosystem and go against the council’s climate change plans.

“We will work with officers to improve the current situation, and hopefully we will be able to find locations to replant lost trees.

“It is clear that there was an issue with management on this job, and in future we will push for more on-site management from the parks team.”
