Lib Dems cause a splash by calling for a swimming pool in Wood Green

Haringey Liberal Democrats are calling on the Labour-run council to include a new swimming pool in Wood Green in the council’s plans to regenerate the area.

Currently, there is no swimming pool, public or private, in the whole of Wood Green for the 28,000 people who live in the area. The Liberal Democrats believe that should change and are asking people to sign their petition for a pool in Wood Green: http://bit.ly/WGpool

Haringey Council are consulting on plans to regenerate Wood Green, include new housing and the possibility of new cultural and leisure facilities. Despite a Cabinet report on the regeneration stating that at least 2 swimming lanes should be provided. However, there are no proposals for a new swimming pool in Wood Green.

Haringey Council is currently consulting on the regeneration plans for Wood Green with the consultation due to end on 20th March.

Cllr Gail Engert, Haringey Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition, comments:

“I have asked the Labour Cabinet Members who run Haringey Council to consider a new swimming pool in Wood Green as part of the plans to regenerate the area. The Labour-run council owns a lot of land in Wood Green and has plans to develop that land. The Lib Dems believe a swimming pool should be included in those plans.

“A new pool would provide a new leisure activity for the 28,000 people who live in Wood Green and help to make the population healthier by providing a new opportunity for exercise too. It would also benefit local school children and the large number of people who work there. If you agree, please sign our petition (here).”
