Lib Dems increase their vote share in St Ann’s by-election
Last night the result of the St Ann’s by-election was announced and showed an increase of 3.4% in the Lib Dem vote share with a swing from the Greens to the Lib Dems.
Despite the fact St Ann’s has never elected a Lib Dem councillor, the Lib Dems put in a strong performance at this by-election. The Liberal Democrat candidate Josh Dixon came third in the contest to represent the ward in Tottenham.
Cllr Gail Engert, Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition, comments:
“It is a great shame Josh Dixon was not elected, he would have been a fantastic councillor for St Ann’s.
“The increase in the Liberal Democrat vote at this by-election is a clear sign that voters are coming back to the Lib Dems. The Lib Dems remain the real opposition to this Brexit Conservative government.”
Josh Dixon, Lib Dem candidate for St Ann’s, comments:
“I would like to thank all the residents of St Ann’s who voted me. Although I haven’t been elected, I will continue to campaign on local issues, especially renters’ rights. I will be out on the door steps again very soon talking to voters in Haringey. The Lib Dems will carry on holding the Labour-run Council to account.”
