Lib Dems push forward in Tottenham by-election

For the second successive by-election, Haringey Liberal Democrats are celebrating success after more than doubling their share of the vote in Hermitage & Gardens. Former councillor Paul Dennison increased the Lib Dem voteshare from 7% to 16%. Labour, meanwhile, saw their vote drop from the 1,300 won by the late Julie Davies, to just 800 at the by-election, in a ward the party has held uninterrupted since 1968.
Following the result, Paul Dennison said:
“This is an encouraging result for the second successive by-election in Tottenham. In both Hermitage & Gardens and Tottenham Hale we have secured big increases in the vote from a standing start, whilst Labour have fallen back - it is clear that the Lib Dems are the only realistic alternative to Labour here in Haringey.
