Lib Dems put forward plans to save day care centres ahead of Haringey budget meeting
Lib Dem opposition councillors have put forward alternative plans to save day care centres which the Labour-run council are planning to close.
The Lib Dems have put the proposal forward in their amendments to the council budget, ahead of the budget setting meeting this evening (22nd Feb) at the Civic Centre in Wood Green.
The Lib Dems say the council should be using Labour’s planned council tax precept to save the centres. They have also proposed the cutting communications and agency staff budgets to put £1.69m into the care package budget as planned by the council.
Cllr Pippa Connor, Haringey Lib Dem Spokesperson for Adults and Health, comments:
"Labour should use their council tax increase to save some of the day centres earmarked for closure as we have proposed in our amendment to the council budget.
“Our proposals would save specialist staff and services at the Haven, Grange and Roundway day centres, to support those who are in the most need and their carers. Our proposals will also inject £1.69m into care packages as Labour plan to do, by cutting back on non-essential communications and agency staff.
"The Liberal Democrats believe that supporting our most vulnerable residents with the greatest level of care need is a fundamental principal, one which we will continue to fight for."
