Lib Dems retain 7 councillors
Following the 2022 local elections, the Liberal Democrats will have seven councillors on Haringey Council, covering five wards. The party held all three of its seats in Highgate ward, while also retaining one councillor in each of Alexandra Park, Crouch End, Fortis Green and Muswell Hill.
This was a reduction from the fifteen councillors elected in 2018, though significant boundary changes had already reduced the number of seats being defended by the party, before a single vote had been cast.
Speaking after his re-election, Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison (LD-Crouch End), Leader of the Opposition on Haringey Council, said:
“Unfortunately, though the national Lib Dem results have been strong, the significant anti-Conservative tide has hurt us here in Haringey, where people felt that the way they could send a message to the government was by voting for Labour.
“Despite today's result, my colleagues will continue putting forward the case for a Liberal Haringey, and will work hard right across the borough for the next four years. Liberal Democrats in Haringey have bounced back from disappointing results before, and I have no doubt that we will do so again.”
