Objecting to Spurs' changed plans for a new stadium and development

Haringey Lib Dem Leader, Cllr Gail Engert attended the Tottenham Hotspur planning application meeting last night and spoke to object. Although the Lib Dems support the principle of a new stadium for Spurs they have concerns about the development.

The planning application, made changes to the already agreed plans for a new stadium and wider development, were approved by the planning committee with some councillors on the committee voting against. A number of objections were made by organisations like Historic England and the Mayor of London also expressed concerns about the loss of listed buildings.

Cllr Gail Engert, Haringey Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition, comments:

"I spoke at the planning meeting and objected to the Spurs development. Although the Liberal Democrats support a new stadium for Spurs we have concerns about the details of the new plans.

"We desperately need new affordable homes in the borough. There is no affordable housing on the site despite the number of homes being built increasing dramatically and the council having a target of 50% affordable homes on such sites. The height of the buildings is also a concern and the development could be greener.

"On top of this, listed buildings will be demolished to make way for the new development. Historic England and the Mayor of London both objected to the loss of these buildings because they make a valuable contribution to the conservation area."
