Popular Haringey councillor Dawn Barnes chosen to fight London Assembly seat
Popular local campaigner and Haringey councillor Dawn Barnes has been chosen by the Liberal Democrats to fight next year's election for the Enfield and Haringey London Assembly seat.
Dawn Barnes, who took a seat from Labour in Crouch End in the local council elections last year, is a seasoned campaigner who has pledged to build on the party’s stunning success in June’s European elections across the two boroughs. Just five per cent of the vote separated the Lib Dems and Labour, with all other parties out of contention.
Dawn Barnes comments:
"I’m delighted to have been selected. This is an exciting time for Lib Dems in London. With Londoners abandoning Labour in huge numbers over Brexit and the Lib Dems topping the polls, Labour should not be complacent about their hold on the capital.
“Being the candidate for Enfield and Haringey is special to me, as I have lived in one or other borough since I came to the city in 2007. London faces huge challenges not just from Brexit, but also from knife crime, the pressing need for affordable housing and better air quality.
“London is a liberal and pro-European city, and London values are Lib Dem values. I hope that local people will put their faith in me to be a powerful voice to represent them on the Greater London Assembly. With Siobhan Benita as our brilliant Mayoral candidate, and such a great team across London, the opportunities are huge.”
Siobhan Benita, the Lib Dem candidate for London Mayor said:
"I am delighted with Dawn's selection. She is a great candidate, who is already doing excellent work in the local community and is a strong addition to our wonderful team which is ready to run a winning campaign in 2020."
