Two BT Phoneboxes Removed from Hornsey Town Hall
BT have this morning, removed two of the four phoneboxes in front of Hornsey Town Hall on Crouch End Broadway. These phone boxes were in very poor condition and as a result regularly attracted crime and anti-social behaviour. It is why Lib Dem councillor Luke Cawley-Harrison has been pursuing their removal both with Haringey and directly with BT for a number of years, as have other groups have such as the Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum, as well as local residents.
The removal of the two phone boxes, which were an unecessary blight at the heart of the high street, is a significant move fowards, and change of heart from BT, who just two years ago wrote back to Cllr Cawley-Harrison suggesting the boxes would not be removed unless BT were granted planning permission for digital advertising screens.
Whilst the removal of two booths is welcome, what many people want is the removal of all four boxes, to open up the space in front of the green, reduce the clutter and significantly improve the area in advance of the opening of the opening of the Grade II * listed Hornsey Town Hall.
Cllr Cawley-Harrison will therefore be repeating his requests on this matter to Haringey and BT in the coming days, and would encourage residents to do the same. You can make this request directly to BT via email at: btp.authorisation.team@bt.com and payphones.crs@bt.com
The removal of all four phone boxes would not remove the facility entirely from the immediate area, as a BT phone box would still remain just a few metres away at the junction of Crouch Hill and Crouch End Hill (outside Streathers Solicitors) for those that need to use a public payphone, a location which is much less prominent and better suited to its positioning.
