Update on leisure centres
All pools at the Park Road Leisure Centre reopened early in February, but the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre remains closed after months of regular flooding in its plant room. Meanwhile, Fusion, who run the centres, have been sent official warning letters from Enfield Council due to failings in three leisure centres in that borough.
Haringey Council will be doing the following:
- Creating a dedicated email address for user complaints which will be fusion.enquiries@haringey.gov.uk
- Supporting residents seeking refunds, if this is not resolved by Fusion in the first instance. These will be escalated with Fusion and, where improvements can be made to simplify the refund process, these will be put into effect. If you have a refund query which has not yet been resolved by Fusion, please email fusion.enquiries@haringey.gov.uk, giving as much information as possible:
- Members full name
- Names of any children on the membership/have a separate swimming lesson membership
- Membership number/s
- Email address and physical address
- Dates of cancellations and other information relating to the incident
- Copy in any correspondence you have had with Fusion – both that you have sent and they have sent.
- There will be quarterly audits to check statutory compliance and preventative maintenance such as re-decoration, working lifts and fully functional toilet facilities.
- Council Officers attend Fusion sites approximately twice per month to carry out site visits and note down any issues that need to be addressed, with any issues added to an action plan which is reviewed and updated on a weekly basis. Other more in depths checks are carried out on a quarterly basis. The most recent one took place in December.
- There will be more routine Leisure Team visits to assess day-to-day service quality such as cleanliness, customer service in practice, deployment of trained lifeguards. The council will also monitor the frequency and quality of communication by Fusion Lifestyle to leisure centre customers.
- There will be increased senior officer engagement with established user groups and clubs such as the Park Road Lido User Group, Haringey Aquatics and Friends of Marcus Garvey Library.
- There will be established leisure centre user panels, to be attended by Fusion representatives, council officers and local Councillors, and mystery shopping visits, benchmarked against alternative leisure providers.
- Officers will continue to press for the earliest but safe return to use of the facilities at Tottenham Green. Feedback will be given on the cause of the flooding and how water ingress has been stopped, once this is available. The council will deploy external specialists if necessary.
If residents do not see an improvement from this service, we urge you to get in contact with your councillors so we can push for change.
