Ward boundary changes for local elections in May 2022
In July 2018, the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) commenced a three-year programme of electoral reviews of London Boroughs that it has not reviewed in the last 5 years. As the London Borough of Haringey was last reviewed in 1999 it was included in the list.
The aim of the electoral review was to create ward boundaries that meant each councillor represents approximately the same number of voters, and to ensure that the ward boundaries reflect the interests and identities of local communities, as well as promoting effective local government.
The final recommendations from the review determined:
- Haringey should be represented by 57 councillors, the same number as there are now.
- Haringey should have 21 wards, two more than the 19 there are now - and as a result some wards will be represented by two councillors instead of three.
- The boundaries of all wards should change; none will stay the same.
The new ward boundaries were passed in to legislation by parliament in 2020 and come in to force in May 2022 at the next set of local elections.
