We are calling for an inquiry into Haringey's lagging business payments - submit your experience
This week it was reported that Haringey has the second worst performance in London for paying the government's business support grants.
As a previous business owner myself and someone who works in a small business I have been through my fair share of struggles trying to start up a business or paying the next set of bills and getting enough cash together to buy stock. This pales into insignificance against the fight that many of us face trying to keep our businesses afloat in these current circumstances. As small businesses always do we have seen many swiftly move to providing services for the most vulnerable in our area and helping local people access goods and services that they rely on. This is a testament to your resolve as business owners.
But your resolve can only go so far. Many of you will be really struggling.
My Crouch End colleague, Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison has written to Haringey Council this week asking for an independent review into why the delivery of the grant payments process has lagged so badly - to commence as soon as internal council business returns to normal:
And we are asking for your experiences of getting your grant payment from the council to submit to this review.
You will all be aware of the schemes in place from the government that are being administered through banks and Haringey Council to help in this current crisis. As your Haringey Lib Dem councillors we would like to know what your experience has been like when trying to get these lifeline grants from the Council. Have you had contact from Haringey Council about the support available, if you are a retail, hospitality or leisure business have you received help with your business rates, if you have applied for grants have these been paid yet?
Please get in touch with me at paul.dennison@haringey.gov.uk with your experience or if you are having trouble with getting information about the help that you have applied for so that we can help you.
